Black guillemot (Cepphus grylle)

Size: 30 – 32 cm
Population at Anda: 40

The black guillemot has distinctive bright red legs and the large white patch on the wings, which make them easy to recognize. In winter time, some of the juveniles come into the harbour of Stø and can stay here in shelter during several weeks. The juveniles look totally different from the adults; they are light grey and white in colour. Black guillemots nest closer to the water edge than the other seabirds.
