Collecting herring gull eggs has always been an important part of the coastal life in Stø and the land owners and collectors divide the eggs between themselves. The eggs are a good source for protein and in addition very tasty! People use to collect egg during the three first weeks in May and this is still allowed on the small islands surrounding Stø.
The herring gulls visit Anda Island to feed on the eggs of other seabirds and sometimes they take kittiwake chicks and even adult puffins!
